Mentor Graphics to Offer Alcatel Gigabit Ethernet Cores
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 2001--Mentor Graphics
Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT - news) today announced a marketing agreement with
Alcatel (NYSE:ALA - news) that will enable Mentor Graphics to offer
Alcatel's complete line of Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet Media Access
Control (MAC) Intellectual Property (IP) as part of the Mentor
Graphics(R )Inventra(TM) IP portfolio.
Under the terms of the agreement Mentor Graphics will license
Alcatel's Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet IP, and provide design tools
and engineering support to Mentor customers. Alcatel's Ethernet MAC IP
are the building blocks for system-on-chip (SoC) designs for
highly-integrated communications systems. They offer customers
increased data transfer rates needed to support bandwidth intensive
broadband applications such as Internet equipment and networking
devices such as routers, switches, broadband gateways, DSL and cable
modems.

To enable rapid integration of the Alcatel MAC IP into a SoC,
Mentor Graphics has created CPU bus wrappers and interface bridges.
Such innovations ease the IP and design tool integration processes
while condensing design cycles that result in shorter design
schedules.
